From Site to Point Cloud: Capturing a Home in 3D
Today our team was out in the field capturing an existing home in full 3D. Instead of relying on a handful of tape measurements, we scanned the building and produced a point cloud: millions of individual measured points that recreate the brick, roofline, windows, porch and garage exactly as they stand today.

What is a point cloud?
A point cloud is a dense set of measured points in 3D space, each with its own position and colour. Together they form a true-to-scale digital copy of the building. You can rotate it, zoom in, and take measurements directly from it, long after we have left the site.
Why we measure this way
Accuracy: real geometry is captured, not estimated, so walls, rooflines and openings are where they actually are.
Speed: a full exterior can be captured on site far faster than measuring by hand.
Fewer return visits: if we need a dimension later, we pull it from the scan instead of going back.
A solid base for design: architects, engineers and builders all work from the same verified data.
From scan to drawings
Once the scan is processed, we use the point cloud to produce clean as-built drawings: floor plans, elevations and sections of the existing building. These drawings are the foundation for renovations, additions, permit applications and construction planning.
